Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India’s leading engineering, manufacturing & construction major has delivered its first high speed interceptor boat (IB) to Indian Coast Guard (ICG), as mentioned in some media reports. The maximum speed of IB is over 40 Knots which was designed and constructed entirely through in-house efforts. This is the first of 36 such high speed interceptor boats being design by L&T under a contract worth Rs 977 crore from ICG.

The interceptor boats will have aluminum-alloy hull construction with water jet propulsion to enable quick response, necessary for the intended applications, and shall be also crucial for near shore action.

L&T has already been building special purpose vessels and heavy lift ships for export at its Hazira Yard. It is equipped to construct ships upto 20,000 tonnes.
