PowerGrid rises on plan to ramp up electricity grid system of Bihar

PowerGrid Corporation of India is currently trading at Rs. 114.80, up by 0.30 points or 0.26% from its previous closing of Rs. 114.50 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 115.90 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 115.90 and Rs. 114.70 respectively. So far 12004 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 124.45 on 05-Sep-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs. 98.15 on 18-Jan-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 116.00 and Rs. 112.30 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 53172.40 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 69.42% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 21.31% and 9.27% respectively.  

In a bid to ramp up the electricity grid system of the state, PowerGrid Corporation of India (PGCIL), India’s largest power transmission utility is planning to invest Rs 16,300 crore in two phases in Bihar. In this regard, the company has entered into Joint Venture (JV) with Bihar State Power Holding Company (BSPHCL) to form new JV Company Bihar Power Grid company.

The JV company will take up the works of strengthening and augmentation of transmission system in Bihar and the central utility and the state Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) would have equal 50% stake each in the venture.

PowerGrid is currently implementing Rs 3,000 crore worth of transmission projects in Bihar. The current system strengthening will be carried out in two phases of Rs 6,300 crore and Rs 10,000 crore each.
