-1.40 (-0.04%) Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the country’s major automobile maker is planning to increase production of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) - Rexton, by 500 units. Through this initiative, the company aims to lower waiting period of its recently launched premium sports utility vehicle. At present the waiting period for Rexton is 4-8 weeks.
The new vehicles’ bookings stand at 1,300 units by December last year. The demand for SUVs like Rexton, Quanto and XUV continues to be good. The entity has introduced Rexton as the first product from the portfolio of Korean subsidiary Ssangyong in October last year. It was expecting a capacity of 5,000 units of the SUV per annum at the time of the launch. Domestic auto maker has also decided to launch two new products, a sub-4 metre Verito and Mahindra Reva NXR, the electric car, in the current quarter.
