Maruti Suzuki reports 3.2% increase in December sales

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country’s largest carmaker has reported 3.2% increase in total sales for   December at 95,145 units as against 92,161 units in the same month last year. The domestic sales of the company during the month stood at 82,073 units, up by 5.9% compared to 77,475 units in December last year. However, the company’s export registered a drop of 11% during the month which stood at 13,072 units as compared to 14,686 units in December last year.

The company’s total passenger car sales in the domestic market decline by 0.9% to 68,729 units against 69,329 units in the same month of 2011. Similarly, sales of mini-segment cars, including M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR, fell by 15.0% to 32,797 units during the month from 38,593 units in December last year.

The sales of compact segment vehicles comprising the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models increases by 8.9% to 22,482 units from 20,653 units in the same month a year ago. Further, the sales of super compact - DZiRE increased by 42.3% to 13,076 units in December from 9,189 units in the same month last year.

However, MSI's mid-sized sedan SX4 sales dipped by 61.0% and stood at 329 units last month from 843 units in December 2011. Similarly, its executive Kizashi’s sales has drop by 11.8% to 45 units last month from 51 units in December 2011.
