-6.05 (-1.76%) Tata Motors, country’s largest automobile company, has unveiled ‘Safari Storme’, a new version of sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Kolkata. The new SUV is powered by a 2.2 litre DiCOR engine that produces 140 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm and 320 Nm of maximum torque at 1,700-2,700 rpm. The vehicle is priced between Rs 10.04 lakh and Rs 14.12 lakh at ex-showroom Kolkata.
Tata Motor is hopeful of increasing its market share with the launch of new SUV. The auto major had sold about 16,000 Safaris in the last fiscal. ‘Safari Storme’ will compete with Mahindra and Mahindra’s Scorpio and XUV 500 and Renault’s Duster which was launched recently.
Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in December 2012 were 65,582 vehicles as against 82,278 vehicles in same month last year, registering a fall of 20.29%. The company’s domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles for December 2012 were 61,700 units, down by 19.52% as compared to 76,663 in the same month last year.
