NHPC, public sector power producer is likely to take up three thermal power projects, which includes 1,320-MW Rewa Thermal Project in Madhya Pradesh and two projects of 1,320-MW each at Lakhi Sarai and Pirpainthi in Bihar. The entity has decided to executive all the three projects in joint venture with State Governments. However, over the past several years the company is not able to add new capacities because of local protests at the site or not getting environment and forest clearances.

NHPC is engaged in the planning, development and implementation of an integrated and efficient network of hydroelectric projects in India. It executes all aspects of the development of hydroelectric projects, from concept to commissioning.
