Suzlon Energy to close Rotor Blade and Control Panel manufacturing units

Date: 15-02-2013

Suzlon Energy has decided to close its Rotor Blade and Control Panel manufacturing units located at Puducherry (Pondicherry) manufacturing facility. The board of the company at its meeting held on February 14, 2013 has approved for the same. This decision was taken on account of the challenges faced in industrial relations at the manufacturing facility coupled with logistical issues faced by the facility, in handling multi-MW wind turbine components of increasing size and the current financial position of the company.

The above closure however does not include the Nacelle unit at the same facility, which could see utilization as a service centre. This would also help the company in reduction of operational and working capital intensity as well as rationalize capacity in the company’s supply chain.

Suzlon Group comprises of Suzlon Energy and its subsidiaries, including Repower Systems SE. Suzlon Energy is leader in wind energy in the India, which is world’s fifth largest wind energy market. Its business model has range of services that include development, manufacturing, marketing, EPC project delivery and operations and maintenance of wind turbine generators around the world.
