NTPC’s unit II of 500 MW of Vallur thermal power project of NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy - a joint venture of NTPC and TANGEDCO has been commissioned on February 28, 2013. With this commissioning, the total installed capacity of Vallur Thermal power project has become 1,000 MW and the total installed capacity of NTPC group has become 40,174 MW.

NTPC is the largest power generating major in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
