-96.30 (-1.01%) Bajaj Auto, the second-largest motorcycle manufacturer, would commence production of its first four-wheeler - the RE60 - in the current financial year. The company had unveiled the RE60 at the Delhi Auto Expo last year. Only after the government gave an in-principle approval for the creation of a new class of vehicles known as the quadricycles, the company took the decision of commencing the production.
RE60 will eliminate the negatives of three-wheeler and passenger vehicles, while encapsulating their positives like fuel efficiency of more than 35 km per litre and lower green house gas emissions.
Bajaj Auto is a $2.3 billion company founded in 1926. It is world’s fourth largest two- and three-wheeler manufacturer. Bajaj Auto has three plants in all, two at Waluj and Chakan in Maharashtra and one plant at Pant Nagar in Uttaranchal.
