RIL’s telecom arm to launch 4G service early next financial year

Date: 07-06-2013

Reliance Industries’ (RIL) telecom arm, Reliance Jio, plans to launch fourth-generation (4G) services only in FY15. The company plans to offer mobile-based enterprise solutions for small-scale businesses, full-scale mobile services and voice-over internet.

The company, which has pan-India 4G spectrum (2,300 Mhz), has paid one-time fee of Rs 1,200 crore to Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications (RCom) to use its inter-city optic fibre network infrastructure for high-speed data services for 20 years.

At present, Bharti Airtel offers 4G services in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Pune. It charges Rs 950 per month for downloading 6 GB of data, while its data card (4G LTE USB modem) is priced at Rs 5,000.
