-3.10 (-0.89%) Tata Motors, the country’s largest automotive player has reportedly cut the workforce at its Pantnagar plant by almost 21% in the first quarter of 2013-14. The company has taken this decision considering the economic slowdown, which has infected product categories that were recently doing well. In this Pantnagar unit, company manufactures its best-seller light truck Ace, which shattered sales records last year.
Automaker has slashed its workers payroll, in April and June this year, with staff strength at the Pantnagar plant, going down sharply to 4,630, reflecting 1,208 job losses. In the other locations such as Sanand in Gujarat and Hubli in Karnataka also witnessed a decline in their headcounts, albeit on a much lower scale of around 2%.
