Coal India witnesses production loss of about 1.2 MT due to Cyclone Phailin

Coal India (CIL), the world’s largest coal miner by output has witnessed a production loss of about 1.2 million tonne (MT) in last few days due to Cyclone Phailin, which impacted negatively on the company’s key Coal producing states like Odhisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Recently, the company reported provisional production of 33.16 million tonnes in September 2013, as against target of 33.58 million tonnes. The company’s total off-take for the month of September stood at 35.79 million tonnes as against a target of 34.84 million tonnes.

The company's  output had also suffered a hit in production in November last year due to cyclone Neelam. Coal India is the world’s largest coal mining company. It also produces non-coking coal and coking coal of various grades for diverse applications.
