0.50 (0.30%) Tata Steel, India’s biggest steel producer is likely to install Shapeline flatness measurement system in the production line of its plate mill in Scunthorpe, UK by the year-end 2011. The company has placed order for a flatness measurement system from Shapeline, Sweden.
The flatness measurement system is a laser based system, which is capable of measuring 4.8 m wide plates on-line and has an integrated laser doppler sensor for speed and plate length measurements. The system will be used for quality control as well as to significantly reduce the number of leveling passes to increase the throughput in the production.
Shapeline AB is a Swedish based trader of systems for flatness measurement in the global steel-/metals industry. The company started in 1999 and has today supplied over 60 flatness systems for productivity and quality optimization worldwide.
Tata Steel’s net profit for the quarter has declined by 27.60% at Rs 1495.22 crore as compared to Rs 2065.13 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2010. The company’s total income has marginally increased by 5.05% at Rs 8235.50 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 7839.42 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
