NTPC has signed Tripartite Escrow Agreement with Coal Controller and State Bank of India (SBI) at Coal Controller's Office, Kolkata for its Pakhri Barwadih Mine in Jharkhand. This agreement is a final step to obtain permission for opening a coal mine.

The company has already received clearances from Environment and forest ministry. Now the company needs to open an escrow account to deposit money at the end of every year to ensure proper closure of the mine in a phased manner after coal extraction.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
