-7.00 (-0.35%) Bharti Telecom, the majority stakeholder in private telecom operator Bharti Airtel, has hiked the stake in India’s top mobile phone carrier by purchasing six lakh shares of the company for Rs 22.71 crore through open market transactions. Bharti Telecom has purchased the shares through four market transactions.
Bharti Telecom increased its stake in Bharti Airtel to 45.59 percent through purchase of 98,000 shares for Rs 3.71 crore of the company. Prior to this acquisition, Bharti Telecom had 45.58 percent stake. In another transaction, Bharti Telecom purchased 5,02,000 shares for more than Rs 19 crore and increased its stake from 45.59 percent to 45.60 percent.
Further, Bharti Telecom had purchased a total of over 14.93 lakh shares of the company for Rs 54.51 crore, last week, through open market transactions. The promoter group firm acquired the shares on November 23 and November 24, 2011.
Recently, Bharti Airtel had added 935,947 mobile subscribers in September. Following the said addition, the company’s total subscriber count stood at 17.28 crore. Bharti Airtel had added 11.50 lakh mobile subscribers in August.
