3.60 (2.28%) GAIL Gas, a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India) has joined hands with Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) to set up a joint venture (JV) Company to implement supplementary gas infrastructure in the state. The JV Company formed is Kerala Gail Gas (KGGL).
The company's board of directors has approved the business plan prepared for the JV Project. This includes promoting city gas distribution projects, laying of spur line to provide last mile connectivity to bulk/large consumers of natural gas, setting up of CNG stations for KSRTC depots, CNG Stations for boat services, marketing of gas related equipments, setting up of captive gas-based power plants, etc.
Further, the JV Company - Kerala Gail Gas will also set up a gas training institute at Angamaly, near Kochi. The land for the same will be provided by KSIDC. The gas training institute will be a skill development centre for technicians and others in the natural gas business and will conduct short-term courses for skill development.
Also, the company jointly with the Steel Manufacturers Association is planning to promote a gas based power plant for the steel cluster at Palakkad. For KSRTC buses, Kerala Gail Gas will establish CNG Stations. The first CNG Stations will be established in Kochi since natural gas will be available there within one year time.
