NTPC, the largest power generator in the country is planning to lay the foundation stone of its 1,600 MW Gadarwara plant in Madhya Pradesh on February 19, 2014. The project, located in Narsingpur district, would have two super critical units, each with 800 MW capacity. The company has already received its necessary approval for investment of approximately Rs 11,000 crore for setting up this project.

This project is targeted to be commissioned in the 13th Plan period (2017-22) and half of the electricity generated from the plant would be supplied to Madhya Pradesh, while the rest would be provided to other states in the Western region.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
