NTPC to sell 10 MW solar power to DVC

Date: 03-03-2014

NTPC, the country’s biggest power producer will sell 10 MW solar power to Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The company already had entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with DVC for sale of solar power. The power generated from the solar plant will be sold in bundled form along with thermal power at a price of Rs 6-7 per unit. The solar power plant of 10 MW capacity installed within the complex of NTPC’s 3000 MW super thermal power station at Kaniha, near Talcher, is poised for commissioning by March this year.

NTPC’s solar plant at Kaniha has been erected by Bharat HeavyElectricals (BHEL) at a cost of Rs 60 crore. Meanwhile, NTPC is set to cut coal imports for its Kanihasuper thermal station, banking on improved coal supplies from the linked Lingarajand Kaniha coal mines of Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL). On an average, NTPC is receiving around 25,000 tonnes of coal per day from Lingaraj mines and 20,000 tonnes from Kaniha mines.

NTPC is the largest power generating company in the country. It has also diversified into hydro power, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil & gas exploration, power trading & distribution.
