NVIDIA, a global leader in artificial intelligence hardware and software, has taken a significant step towards strengthening India’s AI capabilities by announcing strategic partnerships with Reliance Industries and Tata Group companies (TCS, Tata Communications, and Tata Motors).
These collaborations aim to harness the potential of AI and provide advanced capabilities to businesses, researchers, startups, and institutions across India.
Partnership with the Tatas
Through this partnership, NVIDIA and Tata Group companies plan to build a powerful AI supercomputer using NVIDIA’s GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip. The objective is to deliver high-end AI performance and make advanced AI technologies more accessible at scale.
TCS also intends to leverage this collaboration to drive innovation and enhance the capabilities of its large workforce of over 6 lakh employees.
NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, highlighted the global race in generative AI and emphasized the shift towards GPU-based computing in data centers to support growing AI demand.
This partnership builds on NVIDIA’s earlier collaboration with the Tata Group, including Jaguar Land Rover’s multi-year engagement focused on developing AI-enabled automotive and autonomous driving solutions.
Partnership with Reliance
NVIDIA has also partnered with Reliance Industries to strengthen India’s position in the global AI landscape. This collaboration focuses on building India’s foundational large language model tailored to the country’s diverse linguistic and cultural needs, while also serving global applications.
In addition, Jio Platforms has announced plans to develop a cloud-based AI compute infrastructure in partnership with NVIDIA. This platform aims to provide researchers, developers, startups, and enterprises with access to advanced computing power and secure cloud capabilities.
The infrastructure will support a wide range of AI applications, including drug discovery, climate modeling, and AI-driven services such as chatbots.
NVIDIA will provide end-to-end AI technologies, including CPUs, GPUs, networking, and AI software frameworks, while Jio will manage operations and customer engagement.
Mukesh Ambani highlighted that this partnership could drive India’s technological growth in a manner similar to Jio’s role in the country’s digital transformation.
Jensen Huang also emphasized India’s scale, data, and talent, pointing to the country’s potential to build large-scale AI models for widespread use.
These partnerships represent an important step in building India’s AI ecosystem. While the opportunity is significant, the segment is still at an early stage, and the long-term success of these initiatives will depend on execution and adoption across industries.
