The new Lokpal Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha today amid fresh controversies. Prime Minster is assertive of clearing the said Bill during the ongoing winter session.

Prior to Bill’s introduction in lower assembly members of RJD, SP, BSP and AIMIM protested over exclusion of minorities from the anti-graft bench of the proposed ombudsman. Subsequently, government cleared the said proposal and the highly publicized Lokpal Bill was tabled in Lok Sabha.

Anna Hazare and his team, however, have expressed disappointment as new Lokpal excludes social crusaders recommendations. 'Sonia Gandhi says the bill is strong. If it is so, let she come out and debate with us in front of media. Let people see it. Convince the people of the country that it is strong. We will explain how it is not strong,' said Hazare. Also, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati backing Hazare stated that her party will not support Lokpal which excludes investigating agency.

Hazare upset over the new Lokpal has decided to go ahead with his three-day fast from December 27 and then 'jail bharo' agitation against the 'weak' bill which will not help the poor in their fight against corruption.
