Foodgrain Production likely to cross 264 MT in 2013-14

India is likely to produce 264.38 million tonnes (MT) of foodgrain during 2013-14 compared to 257.13 MT last year. This production of 264.38 MT includes kharif 2013 and rabi 2013-14 crops. This is approx. 7 MT higher than the production last year.

The total foodgrain production was pegged at 263.2 MT in the earlier estimates (2nd Advance Estimates) released in month of February. Rice production is expected at record 106.29 MT and wheat production is expected to reach 95.85 MT, again a record.

Besides, record production has also been achieved in the case of tur (3.38 MT), gram (9.93 MT), maize (24.19 MT), all pulses put together (19.57 MT), cotton (36.50 million bales) and jute (10.82 million bales).
