Despite BJP opposition, Kiran Bedi says ready to be Delhi CM

Despite reportedly facing stiff opposition from the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to her desire to be the next chief minister of Delhi, former IPS officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi has said she is ready to take on that responsibility if it is offered to her.

It maybe recalled that the BJP had projected Harsh Vardhan as the party's chief ministerial candidate in the Assembly polls in December last year. Dr. Vardhan has since won the Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk and there is speculation that Bedi may be considered his replacement as chief ministerial candidate when dates for the next assembly polls are announced.

On Monday, expelled AAP MLA Vinod Kumar Binny had called upon the BJP, AAP and Congress leaders to consider Bedi for the post of Delhi chief minister, and not to waste public money on holding an election for the second time in six months. They also believe that with the general elections giving the BJP and its NDA partners a majority win, Bedi is now emerging as a rank opportunist without taking any risks. They have declared her as a fresh entrant, and thus believe that she should not be aspiring for such an exalted position in the governance structure.
