Mumbai gears up for Anna’s fast

26 Dec 2011 Evaluate

The social melorist Anna Hazare is all set to agitate against government in nation’s financial capital - Mumbai from tomorrow. Over 2000 police constables and 200 sub-inspectors of police will be deployed at the venue which can accommodate over 60,000 people. The workers have been working around the clock to make the MMRDA ground in the Bandra-Kurla complex ready for witnessing another anti-corruption protest.

Hazare, who is presently in Ralegan Siddhi has been declared fit to fast by doctor attending him and is expected to reach Mumbai today evening. However, a close aide of Hazare said 'the activist was running a fever and cough, so he skipped his morning walk today (Monday). But there is no change in his plans for the agitation. Once he is determined to do something, nothing can stop him.'

According to Hazare, government has deceived its people by passing Lokpal Bill with loopholes in it. Hazare’s recommendation of inclusion of investigation agency CBI was turned down by Parliamentary committee citing it impractical. Bringing CBI under Lokpal’s ambit is sole intention of Hazare’s 3-day fast. 'We are aligned with no one in particular but support anyone or any force that wants a corruption-free country. And to achieve that we need an independent, non-partisan CBI,' said Team Anna member Kiran Bedi.

Team Anna had opened online and SMS registration for people to sign up for a 'jail bharo campaign' planned after Anna Hazare's fourth hunger strike of the year. The team got overwhelming response from over 1 lakh volunteers who have already signed up in support of social crusader.
