At the first meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Parliamentary party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his MPs and asked them to be present during the functioning of the house and told them to stop greeting senior leaders by touching their feet. Modi urged them to participate during discussions in the House and to stay connected and speak for their constituencies.

Modi stressed that BJP MPs must be well prepared before speaking in the House and must have the right perspective on issues so that they don't contrast with the party views. He also emphasised that the BJP members in Parliament should 'work hard and study hard'.

Modi also told MPs that the onus for the smooth functioning of the Parliament is on them. Modi had earlier asked his ministers not to have relatives as their staff and asked them to get on to Twitter and Facebook.
