Pipavav Shipyard launches two Panamax bulk carriers of 74,500 DWT each

Pipavav Shipyard has launched two Panamax bulk carriers, each of 74,500 DWT on June 12, 2011 for the Golden Ocean group and believes that these are the largest bulk carriers built in India till date. The first ship was built in approximately six months and the second in four months respectively, from the time the blocks entered the dry docks.

Recently, Pipavav Shipyard had signed the contract with the Ministry of Defence for design and construction of five numbers of Naval gunboats / NOPVs for the Indian Navy. The total cost of the project was Rs 2,975 crore and the company had signed the contract on May 27, 2011. With signing of this contract, the company entered into warship building.

The company has registered a net profit for the year under review at Rs 39.77 crore as compared to a net loss of Rs 48.82 crore for FY10. Its total income has increased by 32.49% at Rs 923.30 crore for the year from Rs 696.89 crore in previous year.

On consolidated basis, the group has reported a net profit of Rs 43.69 crore as compared to a net loss of Rs 46.07 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010. Total income for the year has increased by 32.48% at 923.35 crore as compared to Rs 696.93 crore for the previous year.
