Amidst heavy security Hazare begins fast in Mumbai

Fasting for third time in year 2011, the social melorist Anna Hazare has vowed to make government bring a stronger version of Lokpal Bill then the present one which is being debated in Parliament. Hazare, who is suffering from viral infection, has begun his fast at MMRDA ground in financial capital - Mumbai. Amidst heavy security, the protest began with shouting slogans of 'Vande Matram' and 'inqilab zindabad'.

On the other side in national capital, Parliament got a stormy over ombudsman bill wherein UPA government and opposition were accusing each other of playing politics over said Bill. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj strongly demanded amendments in new version of Lokpal Bill citing there are several flaws and inconsistencies in the proposed legislation. Taking dig at government JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav said that the Lokpal Bill brought by the government cannot curb corruption. The new version of Lokpal Bill passed in Parliament has excluded recommendations of Hazare.

Ramlila Maidan in capital witnessed 1000-2000 odd people in support of Hazare and the crowd is expected to increase by afternoon. Ahead of “Jail Bharo Andolan” which is scheduled to start from December 30, a website - jailchalo.com - hosted by NGO India Against Corruption (IAC) has been flooded with registrations from Hazare’s supporters. They have also been registering their names by sending SMSes.
