After yesterday’s stormy debate in Lok Sabha, few amendments were made in highly publicized Lokpal Bill and the same was expected to be tabled in Rajya Sabha today after President’s assent. Although, the ombudsman Bill got President Pratiba Patil’s nod, it will be tabled in upper assembly tomorrow only. ‘The Lokpal Bill, which was passed by Lok Sabha yesterday, is unlikely to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha today’ said Union Minister V Narayanasamy. A debate on the Bill would be held which will be concluded with a vote.

In western India, veteran Anna Hazare’s fast has entered second day and his health has continued to deteriorate. Doctors attending him said he was running fever and his blood pressure dropped while standing, making him difficult to walk and have advised him to end the fast. Hazare’s 3-day fast which began yesterday at MMRDA grounds in Mumbai has seen fewer crowds against social crusader’s expectations. The attendance dropped sharply on second day with hardly a 200-300 people sitting in front of the stage.

However, an NGO -- India Against Corruption (IAC) has stated that police dissuading public from going to MMRDA grounds, telling them that the fast is over. The NGO cited that autos are not plying from Bandra and Kurla to MMDRA grounds as the police under political pressure are not letting them function properly.  “Jail Bharo Andolan” which is scheduled to start from December 30, a website - jailchalo.com - hosted by same NGO has been flooded with registrations from Hazare’s supporters. They have also been registering their names by sending SMSes.
