Congress leader Manish Tewari on Tuesday said that the government has created a kind of mess that has never been seen in the Indian education system. It is very unfortunate as the future of lakhs of students is in the dark. This is not about duration of a course but government's policy. The NSUI has been demanding a three year course from a long time, and therefore the day the government took oath, they should have made it into a three year course.

Manish Tewari said that whether the course duration of students who took admissions last year will be converted into three years is also not clear. The government is shooting off the shoulders of the UGC and there is no clarity on their stand on this issue.

Congress leader Shobha Oza said that the issue of FYUP should be solved quickly in the interest of the students. There is confusion among BTech students, because they have a four-year course. This should be solved and the programme should be rolled up quickly. The University Grants Commission (UGC) had on Sunday issued a directive to DU asking it to scrap the FYUP. Some academicians are even planning to go on a hunger strike today against the UGC although the HRD Ministry has so far refused to comment on the issue
