In line with falling international rates, the oil marketing companies cut the price of diesel sold to bulk consumers like Railways and State Transport Corporations by Rs 1.09 per litre. With the price cut, diesel now costs Rs 59.32 per litre in Delhi from previous Rs 60.41, in Kolkata would be sold at Rs 64.39 compared to Rs 65.53 earlier, while in Chennai stands at 63.53 against Rs 64.71 and Mumbai at Rs 67.90 compared to Rs 69.10.
However, diesel sold to retail consumers like cars and trucks have not been revised, which presently stands at 57.84 per litre in Delhi.
The government had in January 2013 decided to sell diesel to bulk consumers like State Transport Corporations, Railways and Defence, however the subsidized fuel was only available for retail users like automobiles, car owners and trucks. After the decision, diesel prices for bulk consumers like the Railways and power plants were hiked by up to Rs. 1.25 per litre in March, 2013 as state-owned oil companies exercised the newly bestowed pricing freedom.
