Political parties gear up for UP Assembly elections

04 Jan 2012 Evaluate

With the UP elections around the corner, Congress is leaving no stone unturned to lure the voters in Chief Minister Mayawati’s state. Cabinet has cleared clouds around the proposal to fill vacancies for SCs and STs in Central Government jobs also issued a directive for about 50,000 positions to be filled. This move of union cabinet is seen as an attempt of proving that its only central government who is looking forward for progress and development of state.

However, its not only Congress who is trying to woo voters but also largest opposition party - BJP is also ensuring the party make-over ahead of elections in February 2012. BJP has denied ticket to tainted former Uttar Pradesh Minister Babu Singh Khushwaha, against whom CBI conducted raids in the NRHM scam case.

A public relations (PR) firm has been hired by state’s Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) head Mayawati to sell her party to the voters. Mayawati has gone to the extent of outsourcing the coverage of rallies to private event management companies.
