Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will to execute Rs 1.32 crore contract for Chennai Municipal Corporation to clad barriers and pillars of a Chennai flyover. The company will provide the cladding material from its Salem Steel Plant as well as fabricate and install the barrier profiles on the flyover (at the junction of Dr Radhakrishnan Road and TTK Road) over a length of around 1,040 metres.
Similarly, the company is planning to take up corrosion resistant cladding work for 120 other flyovers in the city to save on maintenance and refurbishment costs. The SAIL has developed a special variety of stainless steel, which can withstand weather conditions in the coastal environment.
