The sowing of Kharif crop in Chhattisgarh state has picked up after the July spell of rainfall. This has resulted in covering of more than half the area targeted for the season. The sowing work has been completed in about 66% of the acreage targeted for the kharif season 2014, as per data compiled by Agriculture Department.
The state government had set a target to take kharif crops in 4.8 million hectare this year. The sowing work has been completed in 3.1 million hectare.
The crop has been sown in 1,24,010 hectare in Raipur district, 2,520 hectare in Balodabazar-Bhatapara and 1,02,480 hectare in Gariaband etc.
