IOC, Adani Group in talks to build refinery at Mundra: Report

07 Aug 2014 Evaluate

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Adani Group are reportedly in talks to build a Rs 30,000-crore joint venture refinery at Mundra. Most of the refineries of IOC are landlocked and it is keen to set up an export-oriented refinery on the western cost. The deal will also mark the entry of Adani Group in crude oil refining business.

The proposed 30-million-tonne refinery at Mundra will make Gujarat, a bigger energy hub. Both the companies currently have a joint venture for city gas distribution. Mundra appears to be attractive as majority of the land needed for the project is already available with the Adanis and their Mundra SEZ has recently been given clearance by environment ministry.

IOC is the largest enterprise in the country and the foremost ranked Fortune Global 500 Company in India and has presence in the complete hydrocarbon value chain from downstream refining & marketing, pipeline transportation, Petrochemicals, E&P and Gas Marketing.
