The Coconut Development Board will be celebrating the ‘World Coconut Day’ at JN TATA auditorium at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore on September 2. This celebration on the theme ‘Neera, the future of coconut sector in India’ has been organized on special request of Karnataka Department of Horticulture.
There would be around 700 farmers from all coconut growing states who will be attending the function. This would be a good platform for the farmers to get firsthand knowledge about the new initiatives of the Board especially the ones on Neera, the future of coconut industry in India. Additionally, a one day exhibition has also been arranged at the venue showcasing latest technologies in coconut sector and various value added coconut products.
Karnataka is one of the major coconut growing states in India with an area of 5.11 lakh hectare producing 4,408 million nuts with a per hectare productivity of 9,942 nuts. Karnataka Government is in the process of bringing out a new Neera policy in the state.
