Oil-meals exports fell by 58% in August to 133,404 tonnes as against 3,17,161 tonnes in August last year, due to lower shipments of soya-meal, according to Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA). Meanwhile, total exports of oil-meals during April-August, 2014-15 fell by 36% to 8,64,929 tonnes, compared to 13,55,980 tonnes in the first five months of 2013-14.
The exports have dwindled in the past five months on account of lower than expected crop, which has resulted into high cost of soya-bean in the local market and has led to total disparity of soya-bean meal in the international market.
Meanwhile, soya-meal exports have fallen sharply to 1.1 lakh tonnes during April-August 2014 against 7 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of last fiscal. However, on the brighter side, the share of rapeseed meal has increased from 358,196 to 5,13,785 in last five months.
Out of the total, South Korea imported oil-meals marginally to 416,918 tonnes compared to 416,043 tonnes in the year-ago period, while Vietnam imported 65,630 tonnes compared to 63,266 tonnes during the period under review. However, Iran's imports from India fell by 73% to 1,27,182 tonnes in the first five months of this fiscal as compared to 4,72,361 tonnes in the year-ago period.
