State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) has added 20,604 new users during the month of May, boosting its total base to 52.30 lakh at the end of May, 2011.

Recently, the company received a refund order amounting to Rs 177.76 crore from the Income Tax Department pertaining to Assessment Year 2010-11.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam was set up by the Government of India to upgrade the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, and introduce new services and to raise revenue for telecom development needs of India's key metros -- Delhi and Mumbai.
