The import of vegetable oils during August 2014 is up by 76% at 1,333,480 tonnes as compared to 757,830 tonnes in August, 2013, as per data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India. This consists of 1,321,345 tonnes of edible oils and 12,135 tonnes on non-edible oils.
The overall import of vegetable oils during November ’13 to August ’14 is reported at 9,525,374 tonnes compared to 8,792,383 tonnes i.e. up by 8%. Import of Soybean Oil jumped to record level of 350,373 tonnes in August 2014, highest in any single month since import opened up in OGL in 1994.
Import of Vegetable Oils during August 2014 is the highest in any single month since import allowed under OGL in 1994 by India and reported 13.3 lakh tons (previous highest was in Jan. 2013 at 11.6 lakh tons).
The overall import of non-edible oils during November’13 to August ’14 is reported at 155,926 tonnes compared to 246,724 tonnes during the same period of last year i.e. down by 37%.
