All the Asian equity benchmarks barring KOSPI Index are trading higher in the morning deals on Monday on the back of a positive lead from Wall Street where the major averages posted strong gains on Friday amid some upbeat economic data. On the regional front, the Japanese market rallied sharply, lifted by strong US jobs data and a weaker yen. Among other markets in the Asia-Pacific region, Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong are slightly higher, while South Korea is trading weak. Markets in Shanghai, Singapore and Taiwan are closed.
Nikkei 225 surged by 223.64 points or 1.42% to 15,932.29, Hang Seng gained 119.68 points or 0.52% to 23,184.24, Jakarta Composite increased by 9.58 points or 0.19% to 4,958.93, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was up by 3.14 points or 0.17% to 1,840.82.
On the flip side, KOSPI Index was down by 2.74 points or 0.14% to 1,973.42.
