Congress and Trinamool to fight Manipur Polls separately

Trinamool Congress after minor tilts with its ally Congress in Parliament over Lokpal Bill will now once again stand against each other in the upcoming Manipur Assembly Polls. Congress will be putting up 60 candidates while Trinamool Congress will give fight at 47 places.

Trinamool Congress for the first time is entering in Manipur Assembly Polls in a big way. Last year one Trinamool MLA -- Sarat Singh managed to enter the house after winning the by-poll for Konthoujam seat in Imphal West district. Party Leader and Observer in Manipur, Sourav Choudhuri said “Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee would campaign in the state and her programme shall be finalised soon”. 

Total of 266 candidates have filed papers for contesting the crucial tenth Manipur state assembly polls slated for January 28. BJP, which is sharing seats with the MPP, fielded 19 candidates, Trinamool Congress has put up 47 nominees, CPI (23 ), Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) (33) and Naga People's Front (NPF) ( 12) .
