Sugar production estimated at 250.46 LT during 2014-15

The production of sugar is expected to be around 250.46 lakh tons (LT) during 2014-15. These figures have been arrived at keeping in view the first advance estimates of sugarcane production released by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and discussion with the Cane Commissioners of the States.

This production of 250.46 LT in 2014-15 is sufficient to meet the estimated domestic requirement of 245 LT during the period. The sugar production during the previous sugar season (2013-14) is provisionally estimated to be 245.54 LT.

The Department of Food and Public Distribution had organized a conference of Cane Commissioners of the sugar producing states to discuss expected production in the sugar season 2014-15 and other issues related to the sugar industry.
