Most of the Asian equity benchmarks are trading higher in the early deals on Monday following US jobs data pointed to solid economic growth. Besides, Chinese inflation data came in line with expectations also contributed to the upside. Meanwhile, the Japanese stock market edged lower with investors taking profits after last week's sharp upmove. Further, the dollar's weakness against the yen and a report showed US companies hired fewer workers than forecast too supported the downside. Among other markets in the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong, Shanghai, South Korea and Taiwan are up with strong gains. Singapore is modestly higher, while Malaysia is up marginally. Indonesia is trading marginally lower.
Hang Seng added 296.02 points or 1.25% to 23,998.06, KOSPI Index increased by 20.45 points or 1.05% to 1,960.32, Straits Times jumped 19.97 points or 0.61% to 3,306.36, Shanghai Composite spurted by 28.44 points or 1.18% to 2,446.61, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI climbed 5.24 points or 0.29% to 1,829.43 and Taiwan Weighted was up by 120.09 points or 1.35% to 9,032.71.
On the flip side, Nikkei 225 declined by 96.40 points or 0.57% to 16,783.98 and Jakarta Composite was down by 0.12 points to 4,987.31.
