West Bengal government sets 48 `krishak bazaars' across the state

21 Nov 2014 Evaluate
The government of West Bengal has set up 48 `krishak bazaars' (agricultural markets) across the state which would help farmers sell their produce and get remunerative prices.

Besides, in order to eliminate the role of the middlemen, the government has formed a new concept ‘my crop, my vehicle’ which would enable the farmers to carry their produce to the markets to sell them.

The government is also working on the feature whereby the farmers would be able to keep the unsold produce in the cold storages which would come up near the markets. All the 48 markets would be operational by this year. This would prevent the farmers from distress sale.
