Reacting to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's announcement to ensure uninterrupted power supply at nine prominent religious places in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party questioned the non-inclusion of Ayodhya in the list. BJP Legislature Party leader Suresh Khanna said that Ayodhya is birth place of Lord Ram and lakhs of pilgrims visit it every year. The party asked why was its name not included in the list of religious places and why the Kashi Vishawanath temple at Varanasi was not included either.

Khanna said that it was their strong demand that Ayodhya be included in the list. The state government had said that nine prominent religious places in the state would receive uninterrupted power supply starting March next year.

Akhilesh had said that the government will provide 24-hour power supply at Dargah Kichocha Sharif, Dargah Naseemabad, Hastinapur, Panch Pyare, Dewa Shareef, Shravasti, Sarnath, Mathura and Vrindanad. This facility will start after March However, round-the-clock power supply would be limited to the particular religious place and not the entire place or district.
