DGCA directs SpiceJet to submit funding plan by Dec 15: Report

10 Dec 2014 Evaluate

In yet another trouble for cash strapped airline, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has reportedly refused to relax its restriction on SpiceJet's advance bookings and once again asked the airline to submit in writing a credible funding plan by December 15. With this airline management has now sought a meeting with civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju to present the airline's plan.

DGCA in the previous week withdrew 186 slots belonging to the airline and directed the carrier to stop bookings beyond 30 days to which airline complied after the regulator warned of a show-cause notice for non-compliance.

DGCA sources pegged SpiceJet's total dues at Rs 1,600 crore, which the airline owes lessors, vendors, income-tax department and airport operators. However, the airline has denied this figure, citing the actual dues are much lower.

SpiceJet is India’s most preferred airline that delivers lowest airfares with the highest consumer value. The airline currently operates more than 350 daily flights to over 44 Indian cities and 9 international destinations. The airline has been registering loss for last five consecutive quarters. The Net loss for the quarter ended September 2014 was Rs 310.4 crore as compared to net loss of Rs -559.4 crore of corresponding quarter ended September 2013.
