Reliance Capital (RCL) has picked up 18 per cent in Bloomberg UTV, the business news channel, on Wednesday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Bloomberg UTV is a partnership between news and financial data publisher Bloomberg L.P. and the founders of UTV, a media and entertainment group controlled by Mr Ronnie Screwvala. The joint venture was formed in October 2009. On getting necessary approvals, RCL will be the second-largest shareholder, while Bloomberg will end up owning 15 per cent of the company and the balance 67 per cent will be owned by promoters of UTV.
RCL has investments in other Indian broadcasters such as Network 18 which operates CNBC TV 18, CNN-IBN and TV Today Network which operates Aaj Tak and Headlines Today.
