NAFED has procured 46,348 MTs of different varieties of Bengal gram (Chickpea) during Rabi Marketing season 2014-15 as per the MSP of Rs 3,100 per quintal for the harvesting period February 01, 2014 to April 30, 2014, as notified by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.
This step has been taken as the prices were ruling below Minimum Support Price (MSP). The procured stock includes 1,931 MTs from Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh. The government has been notified through letter that Bengal gram for Rabi Marketing season 2012-13 and 2013-14 was lying in cold storages in and around Prakasam district.
Under Price Support Scheme (PSS), Central agencies can undertake purchase of fresh crop at MSP declared by Government of India during the harvesting period notified by State Government from genuine farmers who can provide land records.
