Madhya Pradesh is going to have steel silos for storing foodgrains at nine districts. This is for the first time in the country that steel silos are being constructed at Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Vidisha, Sehore, Harda, Hoshangabad and Satna districts through public-private-partnership (PPP) model.
This step taken by the government would increase foodgrain storage capacity in the state by 2.50 lakh MT. Besides, this initiative is being praised at the national and the international levels and other states are too implementing it.
Under the Food Security Act, 2013, the state government had provided foodgrains (wheat, rice and salt) at Rs one per kg to 3.88 crore people.
