NMDC to set up a 139-km-long slurry pipeline for steel plant in Chhattisgarh

29 Dec 2014 Evaluate

In a bid to reduce dependence on railways (for iron ore transportation to its plant), State-owned miner NMDC is planning to set up a 139-km-long slurry pipeline to carry iron ore from Bailadila mines for its proposed 3 million tonnes per annum steel plant in Nagarnar. In this regard, the company will invest Rs 800 crore. Both Bailadila mines and the Nagarnar steel plants are located in Chhattisgarh.

The project will start once the necessary permissions are granted by different agencies and will be completed before December 2016, when the steel plant is expected to commence production.

NMDC is a state-controlled mineral producer of the Government of India. It is fully owned by the Government of India and is under administrative control of the Ministry of Steel.
