Madhya Pradesh government has anticipated an yield of more than 175 lakh tonnes (LT) in the ongoing rabi season, as per information provided by Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development department Director Mohanlal Meena. This is on back of intensifying winter in the state which makes it favourable weather for sowing wheat.
The wheat sowing has covered 56.6 lakh hectares of land so far, against the target of 60 lakh hectares in the current season. Though sowing took a knocking at a preliminary stage due to tepid winter it picked up as mercury dipped in the second week of December.
In 2013-14, sowing was done under 58.74 lakh hectares of land and the production had stood at 174.78 lakh tonnes.
