Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased foreign institutional investors' (FIIs) investment limit in Bharti Infratel to 49% of its paid-up capital. RBI has notified that FIIs/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (RFPIs) can now invest up to 49% of the paid up capital of Bharti Infratel under the Portfolio Investment Scheme (PIS). The company has already passed resolutions at its Board of Directors’ level and a special resolution by the shareholders, agreeing for enhancing the limit for the purchase of its equity shares and convertible debentures by FIIs/RFPIs.
Bharti Infratel is one of the largest tower infrastructure providers in India with 35,900 towers in 11 telecom circles across India. The company, which went public in 2012, has 42 per cent stake in Indus Towers which has 112,144 towers in 15 telecom circles across India.
